Community Involvement

Passion.

That one word embodies Mortenson's approach to community involvement.

Mortenson Chairman Mort Mortenson sums it up: “There is no greater gift we can give others than our time and treasure.  We do so enthusiastically, with a smile on our face and delight in our eyes."

You can’t mandate such an eagerness to help others.  It comes from the heart and is as ingrained in the company’s culture as is a desire to deliver exceptional building results.

Most of Mortenson’s community efforts originate with our team members – organizations or activities which they have a personal interest in or affiliation with.  Mirroring the company’s family business roots, you’re more than likely to see a team member’s family working side by side with others.

Paralleling the company’s business philosophy, Mortenson conducts service efforts in a quiet and unassuming way. For more than 25 years the company has given five percent of its pre-tax earnings to a wide range of community initiatives. Yet you won’t see press releases trumpeting the newest effort; instead you’ll find a heads-down and “get it done” attitude.

While each office and project site is free to create their own programs, all have a common denominator: a commitment to reinforcing the company’s core values of Trust, Responsibility, Safety, Teamwork, Service, and Stewardship.

Whether it involves building a home, mentoring a student, cleaning up a highway, providing food for the hungry and holiday gifts for those in need, or merely offering a helping hand or some type of expertise, Mortenson team members approach each effort  humbly, responsibly and with a strong belief that they are simply doing the right thing.
