The State of Collegiate Athletic Facilities

In a study performed by Mortenson at the 2012 NACDA conference, University professionals described a brave new world of opportunity and challenge brought about by today’s sports facilities.

This report shows that the stadiums and arenas in which higher education institutions compete influence school personas and play an important role in Athletic Department success. Not surprisingly, an environment of “haves” and “have nots” has developed across many conferences where some institutions enjoy the benefits of upgraded facilities as others try to keep up. Mortenson is pleased to share with you the following insights regarding collegiate sports facilities trends.

Of the 100 professionals who participated in this study at the 2012 National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics conference, 80% work within or lead an athletic department, with the remainder serving primarily in university leadership roles.
