RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for working in partnership with the Operating Group Leadership Team to deliver design phase services for both active projects and business development purposes.

  • Provide leadership and daily management of some or all of the following various functions within the Operating Group:
    • Design Phase Management
    • Design and Engineering
    • Estimating
    • Scheduling
    • Building Information Modeling / CADD / VDC
    • Contracts Management
  • Responsible for collaborating with peers in the company to develop and refine the corporate strategy and for implementation within the operating group
  • Assess, monitor and continuously improving performance of the operating group
  • Implement process for measuring outcomes on each project in the design phase and support project teams with strategic actionable plans to drive improved outcomes
  • Work in partnership with the operating group leadership team to foster a positive culture relative to design phase services and positions
  • Cultivate, coach and mentor design phase leaders in a sustainable manner that is rewarding for both the operating group and design phase team members
  • Responsible for developing and facilitating design phase training
  • Monitor operating group work load and resources and building design phase teams accordingly
  • Champion for standardizing tools, processes and best practices
  • Implement a process of continuous improvement through lessons learned
  • Share best practices with peers and other design phase team members and operating groups
  • Partner with the Chief Estimator to establish best practices and strive for continuous improvement within the group
  • Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels
  • Lead team members by example, offer effective coaching and feedback, and effectively manage performance
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field; as well as appropriate additional or continuing educational courses
  • Previous experience managing the preconstruction process of multiple projects
  • Minimum 18 years in the construction and/or industrial design industry
  • Experience in construction or design of Biofuels, chemical processing plants, petrochemical plants, or similar
  • Experience in design build construction work
  • Experience in conceptual estimating preferred
  • Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills
  • Shown ability to fulfill development responsibilities for complex projects
  • Detail orientation sufficient to organize and manage multiple projects and team members
  • Positive and professional attitude, and strong customer service skills
  • Microsoft Office, project and pertinent web application skills at an intermediate level
  • Risk management skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies
  • Active listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedback
  • Overnight travel may be necessary to fulfill the objectives of this position
