On May 10, 2018 members of the Minnesota Senate, Minnesota Department of Administration, Xcel Energy, Gephardt Electric, Mortenson and other involved parties met on the Minnesota Senate Building Rooftop for an official ribbon cutting ceremony – representing the culmination of nearly five years of collaboration.
The Minnesota Senate Building, a 293,000-square-foot facility located in downtown St. Paul that includes offices for all 67 senators and their support staff as well as a theatre-style hearing room and two smaller hearing rooms, was successfully completed by Mortenson in December 2015. Upon completion, the focus shifted to the 132kW rooftop solar installation. The now fully operational installation took roughly eight weeks to build, consists of 414 solar panels and is expected to provide 12% of the energy required to operate the building.
