The 24th St. WTP Reservoir Rehab Project's Superintendent Kenny Kaup and his team recently innovated a unique solution to removing the existing bladder from the water reservoir.
Normally, a crane would be used to remove the internal lining. In this case, the above ground reservoir has steep slopes on all sides and activity is restricted on the bank surrounding the reservoir, creating the need for a larger crane.
By cutting and rolling the sections of bladder, hoisting them up the side of the reservoir and transporting them to the dumpsters using a forklift, the need for a crane was eliminated. What originally could be labeled a challenge to the project's success was effectively converted into an innovative solution! With the right vision, any challenge can be turned into an opportunity.
