Mortenson delivered this new, state-of-the-art, on-campus football stadium at Colorado State University in less than two years. The stadium is designed as a multi-purpose venue capable of hosting NCAA football games and a broad range of other civic, community, athletic, educational, cultural, and commercial activities. An academics and alumni center is also included in the project.
At a total capacity of 41,000, including 10,000 student seats, the stadium is part of a transformation and investment CSU has made in its campus. "This stadium is about so much more than football, because it brings our alumni and the community back on to campus, to see how our entire university has been transformed in recent years through investments in facilities, faculty, and student achievement," said CSU President Tony Frank.
The project includes 80,000 square feet of academic space for classrooms and counseling, state-of-the-art locker rooms, offices, and training and sports medicine facilities. There are 36,500 seats in the stadium which includes indoor and outdoor club seats, 224 loge boxes, and 23 private suites. There are 78,000 square feet of covered concourse space. The New Belgium Porch on the north plaza welcomes fans to the site and gives fans a chance to view the game while enjoying premium beers in a relaxed setting and provides landscaped space for year-round events.
The project is pursuing LEED certification and utilizes local Colorado sandstone. Metal panels and glazing make up a majority of the rest of the materials.
Mortenson self-performed concrete on the project.
Excavation started in October 2015, with the project opening on August 26, 2017, for Ram's first home game in the new stadium.
