Having outgrown its headquarters in St. Paul, Minnesota, the American Academy of Neurology set out to build a new global headquarters. Built on one of the last undeveloped sites in the historic Mill City District, the new 63,000 square foot, 5-story building is home to 140 employees. The location is ideal due to nearby light rail transit, hotels, restaurants and theaters, all within walking distance. It also provides much-needed conference and boardroom space for its 26,000 members that visit from around the world. The contemporary architecture of the building features Minnesota limestone, installed by Mortenson masonry crews, Cor-Ten Steel and a sensory garden. Mortenson completed the project on-time and on-budget, and also helped track specific points to assist in achieving LEED Certification.
