Fort Knox Ireland Army Health Clinic Wins DBIA Award

Fort Knox Ireland Army Health Clinic Wins DBIA Award

The Fort Knox Ireland Army Health Clinic  has received a 2022 National Award of Merit in the Healthcare Facilities category from Design-Build Institute of America. This design-build project was the first Army medical project in 15 years to meet the owner’s goal set for “first patient date.”

Each of the Merit Award winners will go on to compete for a National Award of Excellence and Project of the Year to be announced at DBIA’s Design-Build Conference & Expo Awards Ceremony in November in Las Vegas, NV.

“…we are seeing more impressive projects that are raising the bar for success for design-build teams across the country, pushing the limits of high performance and optimizing triple-bottom line success. The collaborative mindset and spirit exhibited by these award-winning teams created the environment for innovative designs, clear lines of communication and the whole-team approach necessary to elevate ingenuity and successfully navigate unprecedented challenges. DBIA is proud to honor this year’s design-build project and team winners, who are redefining what exceptionalism looks like and advancing the practices of the AEC industry and design-build’s role in our nation’s much-needed infrastructure programs.” … Lisa Washington, CAE, DBIA Executive Director/CEO

In addition to the DBIA award, the project also earned the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Gold certification for successfully meeting all requirements of the Green Building Rating System, being a first for all Fort Knox facilities.

The Ireland Army Health Clinic is a state-of-the-art healthcare facility delivered by Mortenson and CallisonRTKL along with contributions from several key consultants and trade partners. This facility serves active-duty military and their families. With a final construction value of $58.3 million, the project delivered a new 101,000 SF clinic with site improvements that included outdoor therapy gardens, extensive parking areas, stormwater treatment facilities, and pedestrian plazas/terraces. The project also included the demolition of the existing community hospital. The Ireland Army Community Hospital project was directed to reduce services to an outpatient clinic and to realign capabilities and health services to meet the demands of the Fort Knox Army Garrison. The new clinic complies with the needs of patients and provides a modern facility to the training base. Services of the facility  include physical therapy, primary and specialty care, laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, and mental health care.
