Bipole III HVDC Converter Stations

Winnipeg, Manitoba

A Siemens Canada and Mortenson partnership, Bipole III is the largest HVDC project in North America in 30 years. This "electricity highway" enhances reliability, improves regional access, and addresses growing energy demands – delivering 2,000MW of renewable energy across 45 kilometers, meeting nearly half of the province’s peak energy demand.

These specialized converters transport electricity with minimal loss from remote areas to where it's needed. Delivered on schedule, without disrupting other projects, the HVDC converter stations reduce reliance on existing infrastructure and ensure efficient, low-loss transport of renewable hydropower.
