Mortenson Develops New Groups to Meet Growing Renewables Demand
In our rapidly evolving world, a powerful force is reshaping the energy landscape — the growing demand for renewable energy. Picture a future where our energy needs are met not by depleting fossil fuels but by harnessing the limitless power of the wind and sun. It's not just a dream; it's the reality we're collectively driving towards.
The Rise of Renewable Energy: A Global Awakening
As concerns about climate change intensify, the spotlight on renewable energy grows brighter. The transition requires a collective effort involving governments, industries, and individuals. Since 1995, Mortenson has served the renewables market, expanding into new energy segments as demand increases for wind, solar, battery storage, electrical grid infrastructure, electric vehicles, and green hydrogen. Breakthroughs in energy storage, microgrid technology, and materials science are laying the foundation for a more efficient and reliable renewable energy infrastructure.
This paradigm shift to renewables has significantly impacted and accelerated the development of new technologies, business models and tax incentives. One such example is Mortenson’s recent $50 million Equipment Maintenance & Transit Operation Center (EMTOC) Electric Vehicle infrastructure project win in Maryland.
“We’re focused on helping customers solve the escalating importance of renewable energies in the global landscape. To that end, we’ve recently launched our newest business service offering in the large-scale electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure and microgrid business,” says Mark Donahue, senior vice president at Mortenson. “Our energy storage, power delivery and engineering services segments will continue to collaborate and share resources to meet the needs of the broader organization and the industry, and we’re excited to meet this upward trajectory in the global energy landscape and set the stage for a sustainable and resilient future. This isn't merely an environmental initiative; it's an economic necessity and a promise for a better, cleaner future.”
In the U.S. alone, 33 gigawatts direct current (GWdc) of new clean energy capacity were added to the grid in 2023 as new federal policies and incentives, technological advancements and heightened environmental awareness fell into place. (SEIA, 2023)
As we navigate the complexities of our energy landscape, the path forward lies in a harmonious blend of innovation, policy, and collective action. The growing demand for renewable energy is not just a trend; it's a transformative wave reshaping the world as we know it.
