Company-Wide Partnership with the Boys and Girls Club

Team members across the country supported their local Boys and Girls Clubs in various ways this quarter.

Mortenson partnership with Boys and Girls Clubs

Boys and Girls Clubs are of tremendous value in their communities, helping our youth reach their full potential as productive caring, and responsible citizens through critical partnerships with parents, helping young people stay on track for a successful future beyond high school graduation through workforce exploration, wellness, social-emotional learning, and S.T.E.A.M. curriculum. This aligns closely with Mortenson’s community impact focus areas of Education and Wellness. Across the country, our team members stepped in to meet the current needs of local clubs, including directly supporting kids and families and making facility improvements. In addition to volunteering at local clubs, team members learned how Boys and Girls Clubs support local communities in a company-wide hybrid learning event with the Presidents and CEOs of four clubs across the U.S.

Our team members learned about the importance of Boys and Girls Clubs to their local communities and the success of youth from grade school to successful careers post-graduation, and how they can get involved and support their Club. Alumni also shared their stories of how their involvement in the Club helped propel them to their next step, whether it be college, trades, or entrepreneurship. See some examples of our volunteer efforts with the BGC!

In Minneapolis, team members encouraged students to learn about careers in construction and VR during the annual Great Futures Fair. In addition to learning about career opportunities from a team member on their Trades panel, students experienced Mortenson-led hands-on demonstrations. One of our events included youth attendees (and some adults) to lay bricks, as they would on a jobsite, with tools and supplies from our apprentice program.  A couple team members created VR experiences for youth to put on the goggles and navigate our jobsites, interacting with a virtual tour of Minneapolis’s US Bank Stadium, Nashville’s GEODIS Park, and Arizona State University’s Mullett Arena! Students stopped by the Mortenson table to learn about careers in construction and try on helmets, safety vests, glasses, and gloves. Volunteers from Mortenson HQ were thrilled to be part of this valuable experience the Boys and Girls Club offers to vibrant youth!

In Eagle Mountain, UT, the team helped their local Club provide food and snacks to distribute to families all over Utah County. Food distribution programs ensure students can focus during school, and help families have one less thing to worry about. During their two-hour shift, the team packed 1,310 snacks and 88 grocery boxes!  Well done!

Our Salt Lake City team partnered with their local Club to make improvements to the facility. Team members spent the day painting two offices yellow and white to brighten the spaces and get them ready for students to enjoy.

In addition to volunteer events at local clubs, and our company-wide learning opportunity, we featured a giving campaign for our Team Members to make a financial donation to their local club, that received our company match! Our team members are excited to continue to support the Boys and Girls Clubs near our offices and project sites, as they continue to provide essential community programs to youth and families in the years to come.
