Mortenson selected for Port of Seattle's SeaTac Low Voltage Upgrade Project
Mortenson was recently selected to provide general contractor/construction management (GCCM) services for The Port of Seattle’s SeaTac Low Voltage Upgrade project. Valued at $80M, the project will upgrade and replace the electrical infrastructure at Seattle’s Main Terminal.
The main terminal at SeaTac is a series of buildings, additions, renovations, and upgrades that have been completed since the original construction in 1949. The purpose of this project is to spend significant effort in investigating the existing condition and layout of the electrical systems in the Main Terminal, design cost-effective replacement solutions that minimize the shutdown impact to end users and passenger experience, and then proceed to implement the upgrades to provide a safer, more robust and reliable electrical system for this critical public facility for the Puget Sound region.
Construction is estimated to commence by the end of 2021, with a 42-month construction period to follow and completion in mid-2025.
The Mortenson team also delivered the design-build Port Alternate Utility Facility project, where phasing played a critical role in the success of the project, ensuring the airport never lost the utility feed from the South Substation.
“I am thrilled to continue the relationship's we've built with The Port of Seattle at SeaTac International Airport completing complex, critical projects essential to their 24/7 operations,” said MacAdam Glinn, Mortenson general manager of aviation. “Our team's continued focus on collaboration and innovation will remain to provide another exceptional experience for The Port."
