Our 2nd quarter Community Impact focus was Environment, and our teams stepped up to care for the planet and promote sustainability in creative ways, including park clean-ups, planting community gardens, and upcycling materials.
Arkansas - Village Creek State Park
Our Crossover team in Arkansas organized a community clean-up day at Village Creek State Park. Not only did the team collect a full truckload of litter from the park, but they also used this opportunity to build community among the team and enjoy the park with a team barbeque!
Community Garden – Mojave
The Mortenson team joined forces with Mojave Elementary School to set up a community garden. Gardens are a great opportunity to provide a healthy, local food source and teach kids about the environment. In the first phase, the team planted trees at the garden site! In the second phase, a dump truck delivered the soil to the site and the students had a blast helping to fill the beds. Then, they planted flowers, vegetables, herbs, and fruits – including a garden bed full of strawberries! The students are excited to see the plants grow!
Wyoming - Animal Rescue
Our Boswell Springs team celebrated Earth Week by volunteering at a local animal rescue. They upcycled cable spools to create a goat playground, trimmed hooves, and picked up trash. They were rewarded for their hard work by getting to play with the goats!
Minnesota - Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden
Two of our Minneapolis teams volunteered in Theodore Wirth Park, their closest neighbor! The Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden depends largely on volunteers and community members to take care of it. The first group volunteered in April and the second in June. They both spread mulch made from recycled utility poles. It was a perfect team building experience! Thank you to all of our teams for their commitment to sustainability and taking care of the environment!
