Last month, the Uline Conference Center project team reached substantial completion on the newest addition to Uline’s corporate campus in Pleasant Prairie, WI. Design of the 22,000-square-foot building began in December 2014 and construction started in August 2015. The center provides Uline with space to host events for up to 304 table seating or row seating with stage for 450 people and includes:
- Outdoor deck overlooking the pond
- Catering support space
- Lobby/reception area
- 7,000 square feet of conference room space
The team overcame many challenges throughout design and construction specifically the task of building a structure with 80% of the footprint in a pond. With the structure eight feet below the water level, the project required continuous waterproofing and sealing up to the first floor, and pumping of the building site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week during construction. There is even six feet of sand in the crawl space of the center to provide ballast.
The facility has unique aesthetic components including six miles of interior cedar ceiling boards, concealed power window shades/AV screen, integral gutters placed six feet back on roof, and no penetrations in the roof or walls.
Mortenson previously built a 1.1 million-square-foot distribution warehouse on Uline’s campus in 2015.
