Mortenson Wind Energy Star Scholarship Awarded to Iowa Lakes Community College Student
Iowa Lakes Community College is honored to announce a scholarship award provided by Mortenson's Wind Energy team to current Iowa Lakes Wind Energy & Turbine Technology student, Devin McCrae. The Mortenson Wind Energy Star Scholarship is a one-time award of $1,000 for tuition, books, and fees.
Mortenson sought to award a student attending Iowa Lakes Community College in the Wind Energy & Turbine Technology program. The student needed to exemplify the following values: strong academics, commitment to community service, and a clear vision of their path within the field of wind energy technology.
McCrae learned about the field of wind technology while serving in the United States Marine Corps. "Once I started researching wind, it just jumped out at me and caught my attention in a way that no other career field has. I want to know everything about wind, so hopefully, one day, I can be a part of a team working to find efficiencies, new ways to harness the wind in challenging environments and find more ways to use the excess power generated by a turbine. I hope to work in every part of the industry, so as I progress, my knowledge of the field will be endlessly growing, thus allowing me to be a better technician and a better leader," said McCrae.
Staff and instructors who work closely with McCrae speak highly of his drive and passion for the field of Wind Technology. Iowa Lakes Community College associate professor Patrick McCoy shared, "Devin takes his education very seriously. He has a great attitude and is always willing to learn. Devin is a leader both in our program and on campus. In everything he does, he shows professionalism with strong problem-solving skills."
Pathway Navigator at the college Melissa Lutat added, "Devin is dedicated, trustworthy, and focused on becoming the best person and technician he can be. Due to these qualities, he will continue to be an influential leader. He's always willing to stop and assist others no matter the task. He will undoubtedly make a difference in our world, and we are so grateful he chose Iowa Lakes Community College to be part of his journey."
