Mortenson and Abbott Northwestern Hospital have worked together for more than 50 years, so it’s no surprise that the healthcare provider turned to Mortenson again for its Heart Hospital. The history of trust between the two organizations was particularly important given the delicate nature of construction. The 419,000 square foot addition was built directly on top of an already occupied ICU department and joined to the existing hospital at five levels. It also incorporated unique patient-centered design features developed through consultation with physicians, nurses, staff, families, and patients. Mortenson rose to the challenge, providing Abbott Northwestern with the comprehensive cardiovascular facility it needed.
- New expanded cardiovascular services
- Strict infection control and disruption avoidance procedures were developed
