Within the Big Ten Conference headquarters building in Rosemont, IL is the new 2,500 square foot Big Ten Experience museum. Mortenson served as the design-build construction manager for the project, which boasts a wide range of digital and physical interactive displays - a dynamic and different approach from most static museums.
The Big Ten Experience's 13 interactive exhibits showcase the conference's academic and athletic history from its establishment in 1896. The museum gives patrons an interactive behind-the-scenes look at student-athletes and Big Ten school traditions, along with radio and television features of notable conference accomplishments on and off the field. Touch-screen monitors feature stories on Big Ten schools including key biographies, prominent speeches, architecture, and correspondence from notable alumni.
The following are just a few of the interactive displays featured at the Big Ten Experience:
- University Cubes - Each institution is featured with fun facts and vibrant photos
- Heisman Trophy Photo Op - Fans can strike a 'Heisman' pose and take home a photo
- Current Big Ten Champions - Big Ten Championship teams are featured on interactive touch screen
- Game On - An interactive game where attendees can attempt to catch a football, stop a soccer ball, or block a hockey puck
