Alaska USA data center server room
Global Credit Union Data Center / GlendaleAZ
What does it take to keep your data safe?
This fast-track project involved the complete renovation of an existing 60,000 square foot building in becoming the disaster recovery data center and mortgage service center for Alaska USA Federal Credit Union's lower 48 banking operations. The project involved the complete replacement of all electrical distribution from the service entrance to parallel A/B data hall busway distribution and the build-out of 20,000 square feet of data hall white space on the raised access floor. Creative equipment procurement strategies were employed so that long lead equipment could be secured in time to meet tight schedule time frames.

Major equipment items provided were as follows:
- 1750KW emergency generator with 72-hour run-time fuel capacity

- Two (2) 500kVA UPSs for A/B power distribution

- 3000A main-tie-main switchboard

- Closed-transition transfer switch to allow for periodic loading of the emergency generator with building loads (no need for load bank)

The project's feature of passive, closed-transition transfer from utility to the emergency generator and vice versa was a first in APS territory as the Utility had not previously allowed such an arrangement. The project was completed safely, on-time and under-budget.
