Mall of America Expansion / Bloomington, MN
Transforming a Minnesota landmark that hosts over 400 events per year.
The Mall of America Expansion is comprised of three levels of retail expansion totaling 268,000 square feet. The expansion included a grand atrium space, food court, restaurants and retail. The retail area holds 50 to 75 new tenants, focusing on unique and upscale retailers on the first floor, home furnishings on the second and the new food hall features some specialized offerings on the third floor. A new grand atrium, larger than the current rotunda, is the centerpiece of the new retail expansion and allows for even larger event use. The construction was comprised of structural steel and composite slab superstructure with a curtain wall and metal panel enclosure.
A new, luxury 14-story JW Marriott was also built with a direct connection to the Mall of America. The 342-guestroom hotel includes a full-service restaurant, pool and meeting spaces. The hotel superstructure is comprised of post-tension concrete construction in the guestroom tower and structural steel with composite decks within hotel public and meeting spaces. The enclosure includes a combination of reinforced fiber cement panels (Swisspearl), metal panels, curtain walls and punched window systems.
A new underground, 610-stall parking ramp is located directly beneath the retail expansion. The ramp is comprised of two levels of post-tension concrete construction.
