Mortenson Builds Ninth Solar Project in Texas

The 326 MWdc Misae Solar I project, located in Childress, Texas, was Mortenson's ninth solar project in the state. It generates enough clean energy to power nearly 60,000 houses per year.

Mortenson connected the solar farm to the grid through the construction of a greenfield 34.5/345kV substation with two 34.5/345kV main power transformers, three 345kV vertical break switches, one 345kV breaker, six 34.5kV feeder breakers, many 34.5kV hook stick and vertical break switches, as well as all metering and protection equipment.

Strong coordination and collaboration proved to be key to successful schedule execution on this project. The continuous interface between Mortenson and the transmission service provider and utility off-taker allowed Mortenson to execute the necessary upgrades required to meet the solar project schedule. Familiarity with ERCOT processes and dedication to clear and consistent communication from start to finish were the differentiating factors.
