Mortenson recently completed construction on the Panhandle 1 substation located in the Texas Panhandle and began construction on the Panhandle 2 project in late 2013. The Project will be the first to tap onto Texas’ new Competitive Renewable Energy Zone (CREZ) transmission infrastructure, which connects to the state’s main power grid operator, Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT).
Mortenson’s scope of work on Panhandle 1 included the construction of a 345 kV substation, 8.7 miles of transmission line, and operations facility. On Panhandle 2, Mortenson is responsible for the design and construction of electrical underground collection system, overhead collection, met tower, a 345kV substation, and a 10-mile double-circuit transmission line, which will connect with the future Panhandle 3 project.
