Polar Fab III Wafer Manufacturing Facility / Bloomington, MN
How do you meet speed to market while navigating significant scope reduction?
Polar Semiconductor is a leading fabricator of custom semiconductor wafers used for everything from automobiles to flat-screen televisions. With an existing 200,000-square-foot facility that includes both Class 10 and Class 10,000 cleanrooms that meet the stringent requirements for high-performance semiconductors sought by industrial and consumer product manufacturers.
The expansion included a series of flexible new fabrication areas that can be quickly adapted in response to market trends; a gowning area, chemical receiving and storage areas, and training area.
We met the customer's goals of increasing production capabilities, maximizing the building footprint on a small site, providing manufacturing separation between the existing campus and the expansion, maintaining 24/7 operations and providing system redundancy to the existing plant. All of this was delivered on-time while navigating significant changes in scope definition. Mortenson helped trim costs by more than 60 percent to meet the reduced scope and budget needs.
