U of MN Volleyball Performance Center Renovation  / MinneapolisMN
A new space to call home

The University of Minnesota Volleyball team is one of the best in the nation and the University wanted their team area and performance center to reflect that. Mortenson worked with JLG to remodel the existing space to reflect the best-in-class sports program. Some of the highlights of the project include the new cantilevered balcony seating space and court viewing area, hydrotherapy tubs, locker room, new club room and head coach office, and weight room improvements.

The project allowed the Volleyball team to have their own space to call home instead of having to leave the home base to lift weights, hold team meetings, and receive recovery treatment in hydrotherapy tubs. The proximity of the updated space to the court made this upgrade both a huge benefit for the team as well as the donors who get to enjoy the game from the premium balcony seating.

This is the first remodel of the space at Maturi Pavilion since the hockey arena was converted into the home of volleyball in the 1990s.

The team exceeded our expectations. Hugh McCutcheon, Head Volleyball Coach, states that no other volleyball program in the country has this type of facility available to their student-athletes. Throughout the project, JLG and Mortenson collaborated with the University to make sure the must-have elements were included in the base project and a wish list of items was developed and implemented as funds became available. Mortenson communicated with the University consistently on project status and met all of the timelines/deadlines established for the project, making the project on time and on budget.
