Mortenson Construction, Davis Partnership Architects, and Centerbrook Architects completed a new $55 million, 721-bed, student housing complex. UNC West Campus Housing included traditional masonry and precast detailing, concrete tile pitched roofs and dormers, arched entries, and decorative accents that extended the traditional campus architecture of the central campus. The building massing wraps to enclose and define three major new outdoor recreational spaces and several smaller outdoor plazas and patios for student use, events, and gatherings. Improvements to the project were completed in two phases on a fast-tracked schedule. The team completed the first phase in 13 months, just in time for student occupancy in August 2008. The second phase was completed in the summer of 2009.
