Construction Manager at Risk

UW Health selected Mortenson and joint venture partner J.P. Cullen & Sons to build a new clinic with two towers, one five-story and one seven-story, across the street from UW Health's East Campus Hospital at The American Center.

The new medical center includes 476,965 square feet of space and offers specialty services such as cardiology, dermatology, oncology, and ophthalmology. In addition to the ambulatory/clinical component, the project includes the development of a 27-acre site and a 1,400-stall parking structure.

First-of-its-Kind Proton Therapy Treatment

The south side of the new campus will be home to one of the few upright proton therapy treatment centers in North America. Upright care drastically improves the patient experience by:

  • Providing a significantly more comfortable treatment experience
    • Patients can breathe more easily, reducing the chance of dysphagia and gastric reflux
    • The position is more natural and comfortable; a particular advantage for children, who often require sedation for radiation treatment in the prone position
  • Better interaction with care team
    • Patients look eye-to-eye with their care providers, taking on cancer together

UW Health is committed to remaining a leader in healthcare sustainability. The Eastpark project, in many ways, is a representation of UW Health’s sustainability journey. The LEED-certified building generates a considerable amount of its power onsite through the utilization of solar panels and other green energy generation.

The new clinic incorporates lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic, such as telehealth capacity and space for physical distancing if necessary. It is equipped with a full digital health strategy, enabling constant connectivity for virtual visits and collaboration with providers who may be outside the UW Health system. This allows UW Health physicians and referring physicians to better coordinate care, improving outcomes for patients.

The Eastpark Medical Center opened in October of 2024 and is located across from East Madison Hospital and UW Health Rehabilitation Hospital on Eastpark Drive.
