Leaders at every level

At Mortenson, we are not only driven to be industry leaders, we are empowered to be leaders at every level of the company. From the office to the field, everyone is afforded the opportunity to offer new perspectives and better ways to accomplish the challenges we face. I have learned that the best approach is not always the most obvious, but when you create a safe space for people to share ideas and cultivate diverse thinking, it results in innovative solutions.

Listen and understand

Making the experience exceptional for our customers is simple—we listen, and take the time to truly understand your business. We ask “why” before deciding “what.” Then, we find ways to apply Mortenson’s expertise. This can look different from one customer to another, and from one project to the next, but we lean in and take the time to learn what drives your business, and how we can align it with our capabilities to create best-in-class results.

Do the right thing

The best relationships are ones where mutual trust was earned. Earning trust with our customers can take time, but when it is achieved, we can push boundaries, innovate, and not be afraid to try something new. Challenges are inevitable, but when they happen, we always do the right thing. Even when the right thing is difficult.

PERSONAL PASSIONS

The desire to lend a helping hand is deeply rooted in Mortenson's culture. At a recent Habitat for Humanity home build, we were moving dump trucks full of rock to create a concrete subbase for the basement. This was hard work, and my back felt it for days. The family who received the house worked alongside us. As I hauled wheelbarrow after wheelbarrow, I got to hear their story and understand what the new home meant to them and the opportunities it would bring. Not only did it make my sore back worthwhile, but it has stuck with me and encouraged me to do more for the people in my community.
