Mortenson Acknowledged for Racial Equity Initiatives

Racially diverse team members at Mortenson

The Center for Economic Inclusion's (Center) 2023 Index Report spotlights 15 Minnesota businesses who have showcased their dedication in advancing racial equity within their workplaces. This impact is significant considering these companies collectively employ over 95,000 workers in Minnesota and over 414,000 workers globally. The Index is the benchmark used to evaluate that progress.

Recognizable names such as 3M, Allina Health, Allianz, Best Buy, Bremer, Carousel Motor Group, Gillette Children’s, Grant Thornton, Mille Lacs Corporate Ventures, Minnesota Twins, Mortenson, PAR Systems, Pohlad Companies, United Properties, and U.S. Bank are acknowledged for their commitment to fostering anti-racist work environments.

“We thank all Index participants and celebrate those that achieved a high score, often in multiple dimensions (categories),” said Tawanna A. Black, founder and CEO of the Center. “It has been our honor to help these businesses assess their performance on the leading standards for building anti-racist workplaces.”

“The Index findings not only affirm that the critical work to build racially equitable and inclusive workplaces is well underway, but underscores the leadership champions, accountability mechanisms, and sustained commitment it requires.” (1)

With 22 companies participating in the 2023 Index, evaluating practices against 43 racially equitable standards, these businesses are actively benchmarking their progress against peers and strategizing the next steps in their journey toward greater diversity and inclusion.

“To drive accountability in the space of DEI, it’s important to benchmark against other firms and best practices. The Center for Economic Inclusion has been a great partner in helping us build upon Mortenson’s culture and create a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture for all,” states Joffrey Wilson, Mortenson’s VP of DEI. “We remain steadfast in our commitment to this work.”

By participating in the Index, Mortenson is part of a collective of companies inspiring what's possible when it comes to measuring, making and sustaining authentic systemic change that works for everyone
