Empowering the Future: Mortenson Denver's Annual Women in Construction Week Celebration

WIC Week Event Denver 2024

Mortenson Denver proudly hosted our annual Women in Construction Week (WIC Week) event on March 7 at Empower Field at Mile High as part of our ongoing commitment to highlighting the pivotal role that women play in the construction industry. This year’s event aligned with the National Association of Women in Construction's (NAWIC) 2024 theme, "Keys to the Future," aiming to encourage and empower women in the industry.

This year’s event brought together hundreds of women in the architecture, engineering and construction (A/E/C) fields for networking and dialogue around the importance of cultivating a culture of mutual support and empowerment to ensure women who enter our industry see a meaningful career path here.

To support the next generation of strong girls and women, Mortenson donated $6,000 to Girls Inc. of Metro Denver, an organization dedicated to building strong, smart, and bold leaders through direct service and advocacy for girls. Girls Inc. delivers research-based programming, fostering the holistic development of girls ages 6-20 in a pro-girl environment. Trained professionals also provide mentorship and guidance to help girls discover their strengths and navigate the challenges they face. By directing the proceeds and attention from the event towards Girls Inc. of Metro Denver, we hope to nurture the potential of future female leaders.

Additionally, a portion of this year’s funds from sponsorships will go to students currently enrolled in construction careers. Over 20 students from universities including Colorado State University, University of Colorado Boulder and University of Colorado Denver were able to attend the event.

Finally, Mortenson announced our upcoming inaugural Women in the Field job fair, scheduled for this fall. The goal of this event is to bring together a panel of accomplished women representatives from various companies within the construction industry to offer a unique platform for attendees to engage with industry leaders, gain insights and connections, and explore potential career paths.

Our Denver leadership team was honored to network with women from various sectors to  celebrate the incredible achievements of women in the industry and align ourselves around the progress we hope to see. Together, we are building a more inclusive, resilient and equitable future for the industry.
