Chase Field Suite Renovations & Center Field Display

Can you make the fan experience better at a ballpark?

To address dwindling sales and expiring leases, the Arizona Diamondbacks took action in 2006 with a series of four renovation projects aimed at improving the fan experience at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona. Transformed suites designed to appeal to corporate customers and a full-service luxury sport lounge provided an additional source of revenue for the ballpark, while the “All-You-Can-Eat Suites Buffet” was designed to cater to the unique needs of families.

Further enhancements included a center field scoreboard providing a state-of-the-art interactive social media experience. The structural complexity was a main focal point in the replacement of the center field display. There was a significant addition to the existing structure of the stadium to hold the more than 250,000 pound scoreboard. For the mechanical portion of the project, a few changes had to be incorporated as the project progressed. More than 30 five-ton fan coil air conditioners were installed directly behind the scoreboard, with the sole purpose of keeping the board cool during operations. The Design-Build team determined that revamping the supply fans would create a better, cost effective solution than what was originally planned.

Mortenson successfully completed both projects on time and under budget.
