Mortenson is proud to have been selected to build the new video board for the Colorado Buffaloes at Folsom Field. Construction began in January 2024 and is slated for completion in time for the 2024 football season. The new video board will be a significant upgrade, boasting more than five times the surface area of the old board. Measuring 130 feet wide by 36 feet high, it is eight feet taller and 98 feet wider than its predecessor. This new addition will elevate Folsom Field from having one of the smallest video boards in the Power 5 conferences to above the national average.
Complementing this massive video board, the ribbon board below it will also see a substantial expansion. Stretching over 1,000 feet, it will span from the north end of the club level on the east side, around the bowl to Balch Fieldhouse on the southwest side, covering sections 203 to 220. The majority of the budget will be allocated to the steel infrastructure needed to support the new video board. This includes the construction of four new columns that will extend from the bottom of the video board to the ground on the south side of the stadium.
Mortenson is executing this project under a contract with Daktronics, operating within a preferred purchase program of the University’s procurement process. This project marks the first major expenditure by CU’s athletic department since the arrival of head football coach Deion Sanders in December 2022, a period that saw record-breaking season ticket and merchandise sales.
