Leprino Foods Hangar

Can you build a hangar with pre-engineered metal?

Mortenson constructed this hangar and office space for Leprino Foods at Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport. The hangar consists of approximately 30,000 square feet of pre-engineered metal building. Additionally, Mortenson constructed a 6,000 square-foot-office and garage building utilizing steel framed construction with composite metal panels, reinforced concrete foundations, and slab-on-grade.

This corporate hangar operates the corporate charters for Leprino Foods. In addition to the hangar and office space, the build-to-suit project includes waiting areas and aviation staff locker rooms with private showers.

Leprino wanted a high tech modern office that evoked a feeling of sleek aircraft. Intergroup utilized a combination of prefinished, smooth metal panels in different colors to achieve an elegant solution. The office interiors were similarly designed with high tech lighting and finishes. Though small, this project was governed by three authorities, Broomfield County, Jefferson County, and Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport. The team worked together to facilitate communication amongst the three entities to ensure the project was delivered on time. Coordination with taxiway and fuel lines also presented challenges that were mitigated through close communication with the airport. Expansive soils required lime stabilization.  Due to excessive precipitation and low temperatures over the winter months, soil stabilization was unachievable. The team offered an alternative approach to 6 feet of materials out of the site, and replace with class 1 material.

Mortenson self-performed all infrastructure related activities including excavation and site utilities.
