Candace Small
Design Phase Manager | Chicago
After spending several years practicing architecture in Chicago, Candace joined Mortenson in 2016 and is currently a design phase manager in our Chicago office. She works closely with our estimating team and our customers to effectively align program needs within an allocated budget. Her expertise in space planning and intricate understanding of the current state of the market allows her to bring forth a unique perspective and creative solutions that are consistently recognized by her peers.
Candace remains a registered architect with AIA, LEED AP BD+C; EDAC certifications and Lean Six Sigma Black Belt for Healthcare from Purdue University. With a large focus on healthcare and sustainability, she has played an integral role on numerous projects including the Mercyhealth Javon Bea Hospital & Physician Clinic, the DeKalb Data Center, and multiple projects for OSF Saint Francis.
Candace earned her B.S. in Technology with a major in Architecture and Environmental Design, and a minor in Business from Bowling Green State University, and her M.Arch. from the Illinois Institute of Technology. She has presented multiple times at NeoCon Chicago and the Building Chicago / Greening the Heartland Conference & Expo, and in 2013, she was selected as one of Building Design + Construction’s 40 Under 40.
