As Director of Design Phase, Garret draws on his wide range of experience since joining the Mortenson team in 2006 to lead our team of preconstruction experts on all of our projects, including private development work and alternative delivery methods (-GC/CM, Design-Build, and Progressive Design-Build). He utilizes his effective communication, collaboration skills, and reliability to coordinate with designers, engineers, and craft labor for the smooth completion of each project.
Garret identifies that no one pursuit is completed by a single individual. The success of each job is due to the combined effort of many different talents helping one another through each phase of the process. His contribution and coordination with stakeholders throughout the design phase of each project play a large part in setting up project managers and craft labor teams for success. When envisioning the construction industry's future, Garret most looks forward to the many evolvements within energy codes, building performance, and carbon reduction. He enjoys constantly learning, whether from other industry experts or internal support. His open-mindedness to new products in the market, new systems to learn, and different approaches to work set him apart from other professionals in the industry. Garret enjoys people and interactions and loves learning what makes people unique.
Garret is a DBIA Certified and LEED Accredited Professional, a member of the Bellevue Downtown Association, and a University of Washington Construction Management program graduate. He also is a member of the University of Washington Construction Management Advisory Council and a part of many other internal initiatives and committees. He has received three Mortenson Pinnacle Awards for both Ingenuity and Expertise and finds great joy in jumping on company volunteer opportunities when available.
Outside of work, Garret is a loving and dedicated father to two beautiful children and loves having park days with his kids. You can also find him going on personal hikes, playing basketball in an older men's league, snowboarding, golfing, hanging with friends and family, or binge-watching a good show on the occasional night in.
