Harborview Medical Center OR & Sleep Clinic Relocation / Seattle, WA
Revitalizing Spaces: Renovating and Relocating to Elevate Patient Care.
Harborview Medical Center (HMC) in Seattle’s First Hill neighborhood is enhancing its surgical capacity and operational efficiency and relocating its Sleep Clinic. In 2023, HMC engaged Mortenson and Perkins&Will’s Progressive Design-Build team for their proven expertise in healthcare design and construction to ensure the highest standards of quality and innovation.
As part of the project, we are relocating the Sleep Clinic, currently located on the 4th floor of the Ninth & Jefferson Building, to the Patricia Steel Building (PSB). To create new space for the Sleep Clinic Program, around 10,000 square feet of the PSB’s 4th floor must be demolished and renovated. We use a phased approach to ensure patient care is unaffected during the transition, minimizing disruption and upholding the highest care standards.
The expansion at Ninth & Jefferson Building (NJB) includes five (5) new state-of-the-art outpatient operating rooms, adding to the 25 main operating rooms already in use. The project involves demolishing and remodeling about 10,000 square feet of the current Sleep Clinic to accommodate the new operating rooms and upgrading HVAC and electrical systems to meet operational standards for a safe and efficient surgical environment.
The design creates a welcoming and safe environment that emphasizes environmental stewardship and durability while maintaining a timeless and elevated aesthetic. The Sleep Clinic’s design includes unique solutions to support clinic functions and improve patient well-being. The sleep lab corridors feature economical wall protection that mimics high-end wall coverings, balancing aesthetics with practicality. The floor plan ensures efficient staff, patient, and material flow while also providing 24/7 access to daylight and views for all staff. This design enhances the working environment and aims to improve staff recruitment and retention rates.
The Harborview Medical Center OR and Sleep Clinic relocation project demonstrates our commitment to advancing healthcare services. Through strategic investment in healthcare infrastructure we aim to meet growing patient demand and enhance operational efficiencies, inspiring us to reach new heights in healthcare excellence.
