The ShoWare Center is a sports and events center used for amateur/minor league hockey, basketball, arena football, concerts, area graduations, and other community events. The facility seats approximately 6,000 for hockey and arena events and approximately 7,800 for concerts and shows. It also hosts 20 premium suites and club seating. Other amenities include 850 stalls of on-site parking, concessions and vending facilities, retail spaces, locker rooms, administrative offices, and building administration spaces. It serves as the headquarters for the Seattle Thunderbirds.
Mortenson finished the project under budget and ahead of the fast-tracked schedule. The extensive use of 3D and 4D Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) in the field contributed to the team’s ability to meet the demanding 16-month schedule.
In addition, the ShoWare Center is the first events center in the United States to achieve LEED certification. The center originally pursued a Silver level; however, through innovative design and construction, the team exceeded the Owner’s expectations and recently received LEED Gold certification.
